Duke of Edinburgh Award

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end, offered to students when they get into year 10. It is for people aged between 14 and 24 who realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass them by.

Students can do programmes at three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold, which lead to a Duke of Edinburgh Award. Here at Linton we offer support to help students achieve their Bronze Award.

Students achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections:

  • Volunteering - helping someone, our community or the environment
  • Physical - becoming fitter through sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills - developing existing talents or trying something new
  • Expedition - planning, training for and completing an adventurous journey

Their programme can be full of activities and projects that get them buzzing. And along the way they will pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Why do it? Good question!

Because, from the first day to the last it’s a real adventure. Every section gives students something different - that's the fun of it! Students will enjoy new experiences, discover talents they never thought they had, challenge themselves and meet people just who share their interests.

But there is more...

  • new skills, confidence and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities.
  • recognition for doing things students themselves want to do (and may even be doing already).
  • students make a difference to other people’s lives and our community, will be fitter and healthier, will make new friends and have memories to last them a lifetime.

And above all, it's a great laugh!
