The Key Stage 4 curriculum

The variety and quality of courses on offer to our students at key stage 4 are reflected in their enthusiasm for learning and their outstanding achievements.  We provide a curriculum that enables all students to choose subjects that develop their strengths, give them new experiences and prepare them well for future studies and careers.  Students are able to take more traditional subjects alongside carefully selected applied and vocational courses that allow for challenge and excellence at all levels of ability.

Our partnerships with other schools and local employers also allow for some students to have an even wider choice of options that prepare them for future study in a specialist area.

All students follow a core curriculum:

  • Maths GCSE
  • English GCSE
  • English Literature GCSE
  • Double Science GCSE
  • PE and PSHE (non-exam courses)
  • Religious Studies Short Course GCSE

In order to provide an inclusive curriculum, some students are offered Single Science and Functional Skills courses to help them develop their literacy, numeracy and general study skills.  Where appropriate, a small number of students do not take English Literature as a GCSE so that they can focus on their language skills.
